Nicholas Aaron Fondren, 22, of California, had to be airlifted to an area trauma center for emergency treatment of critical injuries after losing control of his F-150 and crashing into Holy Face Church in Great Mills.

The crash was reported shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 6.

Investigators say that Fondren was traveling south on Point Lookout Road toward Great Mills Road when the truck left the road, went approximately 450 feet, and struck Holy Face Church, leaving him trapped in the pick-up

Fondren was extricated out of the truck by fire and EMS personnel and rushed to an area hospital for treatment and evaluation. His condition was not available on Saturday morning.

It is unclear how much damage the church sustained in the crash, which remains under investigation.
